Bburago Scale Model Cars — 1:18, 1:24 & 1:43 Diecast in India

There’s a reason Bburago has been in Indian homes since before diecast was even called a hobby here. The brand does something deceptively simple: it makes large, properly detailed, officially licensed scale models of cars people actually love — Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti, Mercedes — at prices that don’t make you wince when you pick one up.

Bburago was founded in 1974 as Martoys in Burago di Molgora, Lombardy, Italy, by brothers Mario, Ugo, and Martino Besana. In 1976 it became Bburago — the double B representing both the Besana name and the town. Bburago was the first diecast manufacturer anywhere in the world to mass-produce cars in 1:18 scale, a detail that matters more than it might sound: it defined what a collector-grade diecast model could look like before anyone else had tried. The brand was acquired by May Cheong Group — the Hong Kong toy conglomerate established in 1967, owner of Maisto and Polistil — in 2006, and today it holds the title of the largest in-production officially licensed Ferrari collection on the planet.

At Cocoland Toys, we stock the full Bburago scale model range — 1:18, 1:24, and 1:43 — with delivery across India.

What Do You Get in a Bburago Scale Model?

The scale model range is where Bburago’s history as a precision model maker shows most clearly. These aren’t toy cars. They’re display pieces with real working features that larger scales make possible:

Opening doors, bonnet, and boot on most 1:18 and 1:24 models — you can actually look inside

Detailed engine bays with accurate engine replicas visible when bonnet is opened

Working steering — turn the wheel and the front wheels articulate

Rubber tyres on detailed wheel designs across both 1:18 and 1:24

Painted interiors with dashboard instrumentation detail

Official manufacturer licences on Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti, Mercedes, McLaren, Red Bull F1 and more

At 1:18 scale a Bburago Ferrari sits roughly 25–27cm long on your shelf. It has real presence. It’s the scale that turns a model into a statement piece rather than something you need a magnifying glass to appreciate.

The Bburago Signature Series — What Makes It Different

Within the Bburago scale range, the Signature Series is the premium tier. Where standard Bburago models are built for value, Signature Series models are built for the collector who wants the extra level of detail:

Even more precise paint application and finishing

Enhanced interior detail on dashboard, seats, and trim

Closer-tolerance body panel gaps and improved shut lines

Display-ready packaging with a collector presentation focus

For Ferrari and Lamborghini collectors specifically, the Signature Series models are the ones worth seeking out. They occupy the space between Bburago’s standard range and the price bracket of Minichamps or AUTOart, which makes them very compelling for collectors who want quality without moving into the premium collector tier.

Which Scale Is Right for You?

If you’re new to Bburago scale models or trying to decide which size to start with:

1:18 — the flagship display scale. Best detail, most opening features, biggest shelf presence. A Bburago Ferrari at 1:18 is roughly the size of a large hardback book. This is what most adult collectors display.

1:24 — the balance point. Smaller than 1:18 but still includes opening doors and boot, detailed interior, and proper display quality. Good for collectors with limited display space or a larger budget for more models.

1:43 — compact display size. Less interactive detail, but excellent for Formula 1 replicas where the smaller scale matches the packaging format Bburago uses for F1 models. The current-season F1 grid from Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes, and McLaren is primarily in 1:43.

Bburago Scale Models vs Maisto — What’s the Difference?

This one comes up a lot, and it’s a fair question since both brands are owned by May Cheong Group. Honest answer: they’re similar in price bracket and production approach, but they cover different licensing territories. Bburago leads on Ferrari, Lamborghini, and F1. Maisto leads on American muscle (Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Corvette, Dodge Challenger) and a broader spread of everyday performance cars. If you collect Italian supercars and F1, Bburago is the one. If you collect American muscle or want wider variety at similar prices, Maisto fills that gap. Many collectors have both.

Buying Bburago Scale Models in India

Finding authentic large-scale Bburago in India is genuinely harder than finding 1:64 models — fewer stockists carry the 1:18 range, and misrepresented listings (wrong model year, incorrect scale label) are more common at higher price points. At Cocoland Toys, every listing is accurate: correct scale, correct model year, and genuine May Cheong distribution stock. We ship carefully packaged to Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Pune, Chennai, and Hyderabad.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Bburago scale model car?

A Bburago scale model car is a die-cast metal replica produced by Bburago, an Italian brand founded in 1974 by Mario, Ugo, and Martino Besana, now owned by May Cheong Group (Hong Kong, est. 1967). Bburago was the first diecast manufacturer to mass-produce 1:18 scale cars. Their scale model range covers 1:18, 1:24, and 1:43, with official licences from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti, Mercedes, and F1 teams. Models in the 1:18 and 1:24 range typically feature opening doors, opening bonnet with detailed engine, working steering, rubber tyres, and painted interiors.

What is the Bburago Signature Series?

The Bburago Signature Series is the premium sub-range within the Bburago scale model collection. Signature models feature enhanced paint quality, tighter panel tolerances, more detailed interior finishing, and collector-focused packaging compared to standard Bburago models. They are primarily available in 1:18 and 1:24 scale, covering Ferrari and Lamborghini flagship models. The Signature Series sits between standard Bburago pricing and dedicated premium collector brands like Minichamps or AUTOart.

What is the difference between Bburago 1:18 and 1:24?

Bburago 1:18 scale models are approximately 25–27cm long and offer the highest level of detail, the most opening features (doors, bonnet, boot), and the best engine bay replication in the Bburago range. They are the premium display option. Bburago 1:24 models are smaller (roughly 17–19cm) and slightly more compact for display, but still include opening features and detailed interiors on most models. The 1:24 range is better for collectors with limited display space or those building a larger collection across more models at a lower total cost.

Is Bburago the same as Maisto?

Bburago and Maisto are both owned by May Cheong Group but are separate brands with different licensing focuses. Bburago specialises in Ferrari, Lamborghini, Italian supercars, and Formula 1 replicas and holds the world’s largest in-production official Ferrari diecast licence. Maisto focuses more on American muscle cars, SUVs, and broader vehicle variety. Both brands operate at similar price points and use comparable production standards under May Cheong ownership, but they are sold and marketed as distinct product lines.
