What Is a Scale Model Car?

A scale model car is a die-cast or resin replica of a real vehicle, produced at a fixed mathematical ratio to the original. A 1:24 scale model is 1/24th the size of the real car — roughly 17–19cm long for most passenger cars. A 1:18 scale model is 1/18th the real size — typically 25–27cm, the largest format widely sold in India.

The defining feature of larger scale models is what those extra centimetres make possible. Opening doors, opening bonnet with a detailed engine bay, articulated steering, rubber tyres, painted instrument panels, and in some cases working LED lights and engine sounds — features that simply can’t be included at 1:64 or even 1:43 without exceptional tooling budgets.

MSZ is the parent brand of CCA and is manufactured by Guangdong Caipo Technology Co. Ltd in Shantou, China. MSZ produces officially licensed small-to-mid scale diecast models at accessible prices. The Porsche 911 GT2 RS at 1:32 (₹1,499) includes lights, sound, and opening doors — an unusual feature combination at this price point. LCD Models — Toyota Supra A80 1:43 Full Open

LCD Models is a Chinese diecast brand producing highly detailed 1:43 and 1:64 collector models. The Toyota Supra A80 in silver at 1:43 is a fully-open model — every panel opens (doors, bonnet, boot) to reveal a detailed interior and engine bay. The A80 Supra, produced from 1993 to 2002 with a 3.0-litre 2JZ-GTE engine, is one of the most beloved JDM platforms in automotive history. Che Zhi, Welly & Other Brands

Which Scale Is Right for You?

The most common question new collectors have when they reach this range. Here’s the honest breakdown:

•        1:43 — the widest-available collector scale. Small enough to display many models on one shelf. The Red Bull RB19, MSZ licensed models, and EBBRO motorsport pieces are all at 1:43. This is the entry point for display-grade collecting.

•        1:36 — Kinsmart’s scale. Slightly larger than 1:43, compact enough to be affordable. Good for a first display model or gifting.

•        1:32 — mid-format with room for lights, sound, and opening features. The MSZ Porsche 911 GT2 RS sits here.

•        1:24 — the balance point. Physically significant on a desk, still affordable. The Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Range Rover Evoque, BMW M3, Porsche Panamera, and 1967 Chevrolet Impala are all at 1:24.
